In 2011, a design contest for the restoration of Tartu St Mary’s Church was held. From the submitted 11 designs, the work “Noa” by KOKO Architects won the contest.
The first stage of the restoration was completed at the beginning of May 2019 – the poles supporting the old floor, also the balconies were dismantled, archaeological excavations inside the church were carried out, the pads of the foundation were cast, internal load-bearing precast concrete walls were built, inserted ceilings and stairs were cast, temporary railings delimiting the church hall were put up and the causeway from the front door was built. The work was done by AS Eviko.
Since the beginning of 2019, Tartu Maarja Kiriku SA has been collecting special-purpose donations for the restoration of the church tower.
Income tax incentive
Tartu St Mary’s Church has been entered in the list of organisations benefiting from income tax incentives, which means that private persons can apply for deductions from their annual income. We send the personal identification code of the donator and the donated amount to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board and the deduction will be entered in the pre-completed tax return.
In the case of companies, income tax is not charged on a donation that is up to 10 per cent of the profits for the last financial year or 3 per cent of the amount of the payments subject to social tax made by the company during the same calendar year. When determining the annual tax exemption, the company may choose only one of these limit values for the calendar year and has to pay income tax from the amount that exceeds the allowed limits.
Tartu Maarja Kiriku AS informs the Tax and Customs Board of the donations made by legal persons at the beginning of the following financial year.
